Love Music Hate Racism is a national organisation which uses the universality of music and its culture melding vibrancy to bring together communities and diverse peoples against racism and fascism in all its forms.
The SOAS LMHR society was set up last year to bring more great live music to SOAS and to spread awareness and involvement in the continuing struggle against racism in our society.
After the recent election victories of the fascist British National Party (BNP) in the recent European parliament elections and the spreading of racist and xenophobic rallies and marches by the English Defence League (EDL), it is more important than ever to take action to persuade people that fear and hate is not the answer, that a diverse and cohesive multicultural society is natural and integral to our strength and happiness.
This year we hope to broaden an active membership in order to reach out to the local communities around SOAS, to pop the university bubble to let people know that we are not merely an institution, but a community in ourselves, a community which cares deeply about the society it forms a part of. This means plans for gigs outside of SOAS, and perhaps a touring show around london amongst many other things…
To make this happen we need your participation, energies and ideas so please do join at fresher’s fair or email (matthew.lloyd.richards@gmail.com) and get involved.
